I found many different options, though my price range was not significantly large. Its also nice if you want to go somewhere like out in the woods because it can run on batteries and has a built in mic. Did I mention this thing runs on batteries? I hardly even had to use the manual to figure things out.
The mastering effects on the mr8 are pretty admirable for the low price. Improved x 64 dot-matrix LCD and self illuminating keys visually show the current status. I was able to record as soon as i got my compact flash card a MB card comes with a new unit for storage, but i bought a MB compact flash card because i heard the wasnt enough space. I also do vocals by running my mic to my PA then using the line out to the recorder.

Think before you act Like almost everybody, I was totally jazzed when digital recording technology became available to the home recordist.
It runs on batteries or included power supply so you can take it anywhere, and it gives you simple yet effective options you’ll actually use. I feel that the MR-8 was constructed very well.
The storage medium is one of those tiny little James Bond-looking compact flash cards. Or you can settle for a little less resolution bit, Mastering effects and reverb are decent.
I’ve had this unit for about 6 months and have had no problems. If you continue using this website, we will assume that you are happy about that. There are all the primary functions you expect from a digital recorder-copy, move, paste, and so on-plus a whole raft of things you wouldn’t expect from such an affordable unit.
USB connection to computer works great. There’s even a mic simulator that lets you choose between dynamic, condenser, and tube mic sounds. There are 38 buttons, 13 knobs, and 7 faders on the top panel, each clearly marked as to its function. At the same time, it provided all of the functions that I had been searching for in a recording unit.
When I finally dug into the menus, I found an impressively sophisticated operating system so intuitively designed I could figure most of it out without the manual.

mmr8 The Fostex engineers put some heavy thought into how to make this thing run just like the cassette multitrackers of yore. The Flashcard that came with the recorder had very little room for songs, so I have been forced to by more flashcards to suffice my recording desires.
See below, but to summarize: For the price of the unit, its quality must be considered supreme. There’s a built in mic on the unit, but it’s smart to hook in your own mic.

Also, the interface with the computer is very easy making it simple to burn CDs. This ffostex a great recorder for the price fotsex for use as a scratch pad. Digital recording is so much easier than the old cassette types I used to use in many ways including ability to cut and paste and find your spot. Sampling excellent, high quality sound. Bottom line if your just looking for somthing to record ideas on and play with to actually recording your band with the help of a mixing board for multiple inputs its not bad for the fosetx.
I was disappointed that it is billed as an 8 track when to get 8 tracks, you have to first record 4 tracks and then bounce them and submix to track 5 and then record tracks again.

I found the lower res was perfectly acceptable for the projects I work on at home. Easy to move from basement studio to computer. The best way that I have found to get a close professional sound is to mike all your instruments or amps and go from there.
Technology advancements have made home recording simple and affordable. Fostex MR-8 8 tracks of ultra-friendly digital at a cassette-recorder price By Reg Hamilton I had begun to think there was something inherent in the nature of digital recording that prevented a simple, straightforward user interface suitable for your average non-geek musician. Recording quality is good. I tried singing into it and it actually sounded pretty good, especially with the mic simulation buttons. The guitar distortion sucks unless you want a very digital sound, then its OK.
Each of the channel faders has its own effect send and pan knobs. I just plugged in, armed the track, hit Play and Record at the same time, and did my stuff.
